Incompatibility not a bug, but a feature

So Sony introduced same kind of "copy" protection, that fucks up several players. See the following slashdot article: New Sony DVDs Not Working In Some Players

Someone seems to be destroying Sony from the inside. Of course, this will propably wont kill Sony in the near or far future. But it makes it very hard for enthusiasts to have positive feelings towards them.

Let's think about what will happen. Example: A friend of mine regularly invites some mates and relatives for little weekend movienights. People sometimes bring their own DVDs, and he always tells everyone that he wont allow copied (some might say pirated, I wont) movies on this occasions, because they are often not played reliably, and that could spoil the evening. Hm, I leave it up to your imagination, what that would mean for Sonys crippled DVDs.

Of course it wont hurt Sony, because:
A) People don't know that this or that Sony is responsibel, because their logo is only printed very small on the DVD cases.
B) When people find out about the broken disc, they have already payed.

Btw. some people claimed that they could copy the discs easily, so "pirates" wont be hindered.

So, what could Sony do to fix themselves? Don't sell intentionally crippled DVDs.
